A car registered to a missing 24-year-old Paterson woman was found Sunday morning with a body in the back seat, investigators said.
In a statement, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said authorities have not yet positively identified the body found inside Shanaya Coley's car, which was parked in the lot of a garden apartment complex in the 200 block of Marion Street in Paterson.
Coley, who has a 4-year-old son, has been missing since Dec. 5, 2017, when she left for work and later failed to return home.
The prosecutor's office said police first received a call about the unattended car around 8:23 a.m.
Inside the charcoal gray Nissan Altima, authorities said, officers "observed what appeared to be a body" in the back seat.
Police said days after Coley's disappearance that there was blood in the grass outside her home, and that she was possibly abducted in her own vehicle.
The prosecutor's office, which is investigating the case with the Paterson Police Department, has asked that anyone with information call 1-877-370-PCPO, email the prosecutor's office at [email protected] or contact the Paterson Police Department Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.
