Mayor de Blasio, in a pointed Friday missive to Washington, demanded the full information on the scores of migrant children taken away from their parents and shipped to the city from the Mexican border.“Many of these children are struggling with profound emotional trauma and require immediate medical care,” wrote de Blasio in the two-page letter to Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar.
“The city of New York has a sacred duty to protect every child in the five boroughs,” he continued. “Unfortunately, lack of information from federal authorities is making that mission more difficult.”
De Blasio gave federal officials a list of questions he wants answered, including the number of migrant children detained in the city, how the government will provide them daily contact to their families and plans for the children’s health care, medical care and education.
