A Woolwich Township police officer has been suspended with intent to terminate following an internal affairs investigation into alleged police misconduct.Sgt. Jesse Thorn was placed on administrative leave Feb. 2 as the department's internal affairs unit launched an investigation into an unspecified allegation, the township announced Friday afternoon.
The investigation resulted in a 13-count disciplinary charge served against Thorn on March 8.
Based on the charges, Chief Richard Jaramillo seeks Thorn's dismissal from the department.
Thorn does not face criminal charges in the matter, officials confirmed.
The "content and conclusions" reached in the probe remain confidential under state Attorney General guidelines pending a disciplinary hearing, according to the township statement.
Former police chief Robert A. Verry will preside over the hearing. A hearing date has not been set.
"I can state without equivocation that there is no place in Woolwich Township for police misconduct," Woolwich Mayor Jordan Schlump said in a statement. "While I appreciate Sergeant Thorn's right to defend himself, I fully supported Chief Jaramillo in his decision to remove Sgt. Thorn from patrol pending the completion of the Internal Affairs investigation."
