Hoboken police were kept busy on "Halloween Weekend," making eight arrests, issuing 35 violation summonses and responding to 351 calls for service over a 16-hour span, Detective Sgt. Joseph Leonard said.The arrests, seven of which were made in a four-hour period, ranged from aggravated assault to drug possession and disorderly conduct.
Joseph also said there were 29 ambulance calls and 10 motor vehicle summonses issued. Police also responded to four bars, two for over-occupancy and two for intoxicated women, Joseph said.
Here is a rundown on the arrests:
-- At 6:16 p.m. Saturday, a Jersey City man was charged with bail-jumping after a traffic stop in the area of Observer Highway and Washington Street, Joseph said. The 29-year-old driver was not the owner of the vehicles and he did not have his license with him, police said. Further investigation revealed the man had a warrant for his arrest out of Toms River.
-- At 11:33 p.m. Saturday, a Mitchellville, Maryland man was charged with marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession, Joseph said. Police saw a person inside a parked car in front of 1 Newark Street lighting something and as they got closer they smelled marijuana, Joseph said. A moment later the 30-year-old got out of the car with a marijuana cigarette and he was arrested, Joseph said. Police found a bag of marijuana in the car, Joseph said.
