The Department of Homeland Security plans to use taxpayer dollars to send migrants apprehended at the US-Mexico border to cities across the US — including Los Angeles, Houston, and Dallas — in a bid to ease overcrowding in holding facilities, according to a new report. NBC News, citing internal DHS documents, reported that some agency officials have dubbed the scheme the “Abbott plan” after Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott — who began hiring buses earlier this year to take migrants to Washington, DC, to protest the Biden administration’s border policies. Those buses transported more than 150 migrants — all of whom had volunteered and were legally allowed to travel within the US after clearing the first hurdle to seeking asylum.
