Adnan Syed was crying outside court after three Appellate Court of judges questioned if they had the authority to reinstate his decades-old murder conviction. Syed, whose case was highlighted in the hit Serial podcast, was freed last year after a judge overturned his sentence for the 1999 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. While Lee's family appealed the reversal that saw Syed free after 23 years behind bars, their attorneys came up empty when pressed by judges Stuart Berger, Kathryn Graeff and Gregory Wells on Thursday on why the charges shouldn't be dropped.
