Decades before she became an icon, fashion editor Anna Wintour was in , on Lexington Avenue near Bloomingdale’s, wearing a fur coat and high heels, when a mugger snatched her purse. Still possessed of the sprinting talent of her youth – once thought to be Olympic-level – even in her heels, she took off after him and grabbed the bag. ‘The guy didn’t stand a chance,’ says Wintour’s close friend Anne McNally, a former model and ballet dancer who was with her that day decades ago.
