For the first time, astronomers may have spotted the afterglow from an epic cosmic event known as a 'kilonova'.Kilonovas are immense explosions caused by neutron stars colliding into each other, sending an intense jet of of high-energy particles through space. They produce a luminous flash of radioactive light that produces large quantities of important elements like silver, gold, platinum and uranium.
