It was the luxury vessel that was meant to be taking more than 900 refugees to safety in the United States.The MS St. Louis, a cruise liner, was carrying Jewish men, women and children fleeing oppression in Nazi when it docked in in May 1939.But instead of being let off the ship, nearly all of the 937 passengers - who had obtained tourist visas to stay in the country while they waited for permission to get into the nearby US - were turned away.
