American researchers believe they've pinpointed when and where Covid first emerged — and it might not have been in .Researchers from the University of , San Diego, say they've uncovered evidence that SARS-CoV-2 — the virus that causes Covid — likely started evolving in bats as early as 2012, in a region spanning western China and northern Laos. They analyzed more than 100 coronaviruses found in horseshoe bats, comparing them with SARS-CoV-2 and its cousin SARS-CoV-1, the virus behind the 2002 outbreak.
