Students, faculty, and alumni at Marymount University are outraged as the catholic school announced plans to eliminate ten majors - including theology - to pave the way for more popular programs. The cuts would come largely on the humanities side of the liberal arts institution, with majors like English, history, art, philosophy, religious studies, and secondary education seeing the axe. Economics, mathematics, sociology, and an English and humanities master's program would also be eliminated. In 2021, the top three majors at Marymount were nursing, business administration, and information technology, according to US News.
