A woman has passionately urged state legislatures to exonerate her ancestor, who was among several women tried and by colonial-era officials in the mid-1600s.Susan Bailey this week deplored the way her 'ninth great-grandmother' Alice Young was unjustly demonized and urged lawmakers to pass a to exonerate the 34 victims of the state's witch trials from 1647 to 1697.The effort of Bailey, together with other descendants of the accused, authors and lay historians, reflects Connecticut's effort to come to terms with a dark chapter in its history, and what some campaigners call a misogyny that persists today.
