has shared an incredibly crisp image of a nearby galaxy, captured by its new James Webb Space Telescope. For comparison, it also shared an image of the same galaxy captured by its now retired Spitzer Space Telescope, which launched in 2003 and was the first to provide high-resolution images of the near- and mid-infrared universe.While the Spitzer image shows a blur of around seven nearby stars located in the Large Magellanic Cloud – a satellite galaxy that orbits the Milky Way – the James Webb image captured the foreground stars in sharp detail.
