The recent passing of a beloved New York City pub owner on August 18 has dredged up the dark history of the bar - and a sensational murder that had the whole city on edge in 1986. For decades Jack Dorrian presided over the iconic watering hole, Dorrian's Red Hand, that was opened by his father, an Irish immigrant in 1960. His age was not unknown, but a 2006 story claimed he was 73, which would have made him close to 90. For generations, the pub served as a second home to local patrons of the Upper East Side and a cadre of private school educated prepsters that made it their informal clubhouse.
