Senate are looking to pass legislation that would would protect marriage equality on the federal level as senators return to Washington D.C. on Tuesday for a last round of legislating before the election.Lawmakers are looking at a couple of options to protect gay marriage rights amid concerns the Supreme Court could roll them back as it did with abortion rights. One is to approve the Respect for Marriage Act. The House passed the bill in July in a 267-157 vote, with 47 joining all Democrats in supporting the measure. It needs to be approved by the before President can sign it into law.
