A repurposed diabetes drug given as a once-a-week shot could knock nearly a fifth off an obese child's weight, a study has found.Minors aged 12 to 17 years old who were given semaglutide — brand name Wegovy — lost 14 per cent of their body weight on average in 16 months. This translated to a 16 per cent of their body mass index (BMI), a measure used to establish whether someone is an unhealthy weight. One in four lost at least a fifth from their BMI.
