Cake is a fact of life, a prominent player in so many of our major milestones and celebrations. There’s cake, of course; and birthday cake, meeting-a-friend-for-coffee cake, Christening cake, wedding cake and having-a-celebration-in-the-office cake.A study by the University of Chester, in the International Journal Of Workplace Health, found 87 per cent of people are offered cake at work at least once a week and 68 per cent find it hard to resist.And that’s the problem — for as much as cake features prominently in many social events, it is one of those foods we tend to feel bad about eating. It probably features high up on the ‘food-to-avoid’ list for many contemplating New Year resolutions.
