Once the sun sets on the Himalayas and temperatures drop, a cacophony of eerie noises erupts deep within the glaciers around Mt Everest.Researchers led by the glaciologist Evgeny Podolskiy have that the chorus of crashing and splintering noises in the high-altitude glaciers is a result of sharp drops in temperature after dark that causes ice to crack. The team pinpointed the cause of the sounds in 2018 after spending more than a week trekking through the Nepalese Himalayas to test the seismic activity of the Trakarding-Trambau Glacier system there.
