Security will remain heightened at the Jersey City school where an eighth grader was arrested Wednesday for bringing a loaded gun to class.Middle-school students who attend School 38 were checked with metal detectors when classes started on Thursday and a school district spokeswoman said the security measure will stay in place “for the next few days.”Meanwhile, new details are emerging about the 14-year-old who now faces weapons charges after bringing the gun into the Stegman Parkway school, which educates about 850 students in preschool through grade 8.The teen brought the gun to school previously and another student who saw notified a parent, who told police about it Wednesday, according to sources with knowledge of the matter. Cops were at the school that day for a career fair.The 14-year-old was a victim of gun violence two years ago. He was the youngest of four people shot on Wilkinson Avenue two days before July 4, according to law enforcement sources.Greg Gregorial was picking up his granddaughter at School 38 on Wednesday afternoon. Gregorial was less upset about the loaded gun than other parents who talked to The Jersey Journal.“These things happen,” he said. “I think maybe it has to do with how competent the faculty is, and I have faith in these guys.”
