A New York University professor, who was fired after a group of students signed a petition against him suggesting his course was too difficult, has claimed that US universities need to end 'coddling' and 'apply a little tough love' to students. Two months ago in August, former organic chemistry professor Maitland Jones Jr, 84, was fired by the university after a petition signed by 82 of his 350 students cited his teaching methods and course outline as reasons for their poor grades.'We are very concerned about our scores, and find that they are not an accurate reflection of the time and effort put into this class,' the petition said, according to a report.
