When the rain began Saturday it seemed for a time it would never stop.Across the state torrential rain soaked the area as line after line of thunderstorms rolled through. Particularly hard hit were areas of North Jersey where there were numerous reports of multiple cars under water and emergency officials rescuing people stuck in the floodwaters.
Caldwell took the brunt of it, with just under 5 inches of rain falling before 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
In Woodland Park there were reports of cars floating away an rescues being made by emergency personnel in boats and high-water vehicles.

The American Red Cross aided 24 people from eight families in Fairview who were impacted by the severe flooding.
