Former Mets minor leaguer is killed in Dominican Republic SUV crash

A former prospect in the New York Mets minor league system was killed in an automobile accident in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.

Darwyn Encarnación, 21, was driving his Honda CRV when he crashed into a section of the Arenoso Bridge in the north central municipality of Vega.

The impact of the crash sent the SUV into a cobblestone ditch below the bridge.
