The Guatemalan government has put its security forces on alert as 2,000 migrants are expected to depart from Honduras on Friday, as the expected caravan hopes to reach the Southern U.S. border with .The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Guatemalan Institute of Migration met Monday with counterparts from El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and the United States to discuss plans on how it will coordinate efforts to contain and stop the caravan.'The objective, as has been done previously with past caravans, is to safeguard the lives of the people involved in this massive flow, as well as of the population in our territory,' the ministry said in a statement.
