High levels of radioactive waste have been detected at a St. Louis-area elementary school, located just miles from the site of a World War II-era factory where uranium for America's first was processed.A recent study of the soils and dust in and around Jana Elementary School in Florissant found radioactive waste up to 22 times the expected level in the soil of the school's kindergarten playground.Boston Chemical Data Corp. also found high levels of radioactive lead in the soils adjacent to the school's basketball courts, as well as radioactive waste in the elementary school's kitchen, gym and boiler room.
