A hormone therapy could slash the volume of booze consumed by alcoholics, a study in monkeys suggests. Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) — produced in the livers of people and animals — was shown to cut ethanol intake by up to 50 per cent. University of researchers gave monkeys with a strong preference for a synthetic version of the hormone for 16 days.
