An incoming New York Road Runners (NYRR) chairwoman ran in eighteen organization-run races despite breaking the rule in 1996 - but she claimed the violation was 'unintentional.' Nnenna Lynch, 51, is set to become the first African American and woman to serve as the NYRR's Chairman of the Board come June 2023 after predecessor George Hirsch steps down after 17 years. The former Villanova runner was banned from running in NYRR races in 1996 after she was caught with a prohibited amount of pseudoephedrine - a nasal decongestant that can be used as a stimulant.
