Hundreds of lives were saved at JFK airport, as two planes with each other on the runway, thanks to a new sophisticated radar system which is only available at a few airports across the country. The near collision between an American Airlines Boeing 777 and a Delta Boeing 737 came just a week after the American's union complained of new pre-flight protocols which had caused delays as pilot's sorted through the procedures.The departing Delta plane then came to a safe stop on the John F. Kennedy International Airport runway as the American Airlines jet crossed in front around 8:45 p.m. Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.
