A United States congressional committee investigating the deadly January 6 Capitol insurrection will meet next week to advance contempt charges against Steve Bannon, a former top political adviser to ex-President Donald Trump.Bannon, who helped Trump win the White House in 2016, has refused to be interviewed or turn over documents subpoenaed by the US House of Representatives panel unless ordered to do so by a court.“We reject his position entirely,” committee chairman Bennie Thompson said in a statement on Thursday. “The select committee will not tolerate defiance of our subpoenas, so we must move forward with proceedings to refer Mr Bannon for criminal contempt.”
