Melinda Gates said she will no longer give the bulk of the $15 billion pledge she made with Bill Gate to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation after divorcing him and instead plans to give it away through philanthropic ventures. People close to the matter told the that after finalizing their divorce last summer, Melinda, 57, who got about $65 billion in the divorce, wanted to break away from the pledge the couple made in July to give an additional $15 billion to the Gates Foundation. 'I recognize the absurdity of so much wealth being concentrated in the hands of one person, and I believe the only responsible thing to do with a fortune this size is give it away—as thoughtfully and impactfully as possible,' Melinda said in her newest pledge letter.
