Michigan lawmakers this week voted to repeal an archaic law which bans unmarried couples from living together with $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.Known as a 'Zombie Law,' it was first passed in 1931 and decrees that 'any man or woman, not being married to each other, who lewdly and lasciviously associates and cohabits together' are in violation. The law has not been enforced for decades.The repeal was championed by Democratic State Senator Stephanie Chang, who believes that common-law couples should receive the same tax benefits as legally-married ones.
