Congress is deciding whether to give $424.2 million to purchase more military-grade HoloLense headsets from Microsoft after more than 80 percent of soldiers testing the device experienced ‘mission-affecting physical impairments’ in less than three hours of use.The US Army has been testing the augmented reality device since 2018, which claims to improve training and missions on the battlefield by projecting digital information on the screen while allowing users to interact with the physical world.The HoloLens, however, is causing headaches, eyestrain and nausea, and acceptance of the technology ‘remains low’ - a finding that could pause the entire project.
