Minneapolis is one step closer to sending social workers out on 911 calls where a person is said to be suffering a mental health crisis. The $730,000 program would station a total of 25 social workers across five police precincts in the crime-ridden city for two years. They'd be sent out alongside cops if a call was deemed worthy of a social worker's attention. On Monday, Minneapolis' Policy and Government Oversight Committee voted to approve the measure. It will be put to a full council vote Thursday and will come into action next year if passed.
