Mitch McConnell smiles with his new Republican Senate recruits

Mitch McConnell on Tuesday met with the newly-elected Republican senators as he tries to hold off a challenge to his leadership amid anger at the outcome at the midterm election.

The GOP leader met with election winners Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, Ted Budd of North Carolina, Katie Britt of , J. D. Vance of Ohio, and Eric Schmitt of Missouri in his Capitol Hill office.

But kept the majority of the Senate over the weekend when their candidates won key races in Nevada and Arizona.
