After a 99-day lockout that delayed Opening Day by a week and rain showers that postponed the scheduled first game of the year in New York, Major League Baseball's 2022 season is officially underway. The season's first pitch was thrown by Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks to Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Kolton Wong on Thursday for the first of seven scheduled games on Thursday. Temperatures on Chicago's north side were in the 40s and crowds were forced to prepare for a chance of rain, which could explain why the game failed to sell out.
