A Navy veteran and competitive bodybuilder drowned on Friday while rescuing a pair of distressed tubers from a river.Joshua Crane, 30, a fourth year medical student at the University of California Davis School of Medicine, was paddle boarding with classmates in the San Juan rapids on the American River when two female friends became stuck and called for help. Crane heroically leaped from his board to rescue the women and managed to pull them to safety, but he was swept away before he could get himself out of the water.
