With the NFL's minority hiring under the microscope following fired Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores's discrimination lawsuit against the league, several teams are now focusing on minority candidates for head-coaching positions. The Dolphins officially made the first minority head-coaching hire of the offseason on Sunday with ex-49ers assistant Mike McDaniel, who identifies as multiracial, while the Houston Texans are in talks with Lovie Smith, an African American who served as head coach with Chicago and Tampa Bay for 11 seasons. This comes after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told teams Saturday that the league will look to bolster policies meant to encourage hiring of minorities, particularly as head coaches, and he pledged an investigation into tanking allegations raised by Flores in his discrimination lawsuit against the NFL.
