Devastated victims of Hurricane Ida were outraged and disgusted on Wednesday with New York City Comptroller Brand Lander when he denied all 4,703 claims for property damages after the city officials were caught flatfooted by the storm. This week homeowners in the affected boroughs - mostly Queens - received letters from the city's chief numbers-cruncher rejecting their requests for financial compensation after Big Apple sewers became overwhelmed in the September 2021 storm, causing 13 deaths and massive property damage and displacement. The letter came as a shock to the Hollis, Queens homeowners on 90th Avenue after city politicians encouraged them to file claims with the city for compensation.
