More than 100 people gathered in 's East Village to protest the removal of homeless encampments at Tompkins Square Park on Friday as Mayor Eric Adams continues to crackdown on vagrancy. The encampment near the park was recently swept, twice, with the homeless and protestors rebuilding the camp as they called on the city to provide permanent housing for the vulnerable population. The demonstration was led by the housing advocate groups, the Brooklyn Eviction Defense and the Rent Refusers Network, which have been blocking city sanitation workers from clearing out the camps.
