More than 600 officers will get out from behind their desks and into the streets this week as the city battles a surge in violent , with shooting incidents up nearly 30 percent compared to this time last year.A total of 658 cops assigned to non-patrol posts, like the department's press office, will be deployed as part of an 'enhanced deployment strategy.'The two-part plan will move 300 officers to the 4pm to 12am shift every night, according to two memos obtained by the , including one sent by Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell on Monday. The officers will be put on 'high visibility posts' based on crime trends.
