Off-duty NYPD officer, 22, is shot and injured in Queens carjacking

An off-duty cop on his way to work became the sixth NYPD officer shot in 2022 on Tuesday night when two suspects tried to steal his car in Queens, hours after thousands gathered at a wake for one of two officers killed in a Harlem last month.

The 22-year-old officer, who police did not identify, was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Beach 62nd Street and Beach Channel Drive in Arverne when two men, one armed, approached his car at about 10.20 pm, according to the New York Police Department.

One of the attempted carjackers tapped on his driver-side window with a firearm, the cop got out with his own weapon drawn.
