A couple who escaped the rat race to live off-grid in the desert in a US national park are now completely self sufficient - and claim they recycle their own human waste to power their gas cooker.Whitney Newkirk, 33, and her husband, Trent, 26, upped sticks and moved from Milwaukee, more than 2,000 miles away to Joshua Tree National Park, in August 2020.They now live in a converted yurt on their patch of land, which cost around $30,000 in total, and document their off-grid lifestyle on social media.
