The are defending their decision to invite Pete Rose to celebrate the club's 1980 World Series title on August 7.Not only is baseball's all-time hit king officially banned from baseball after admittedly gambling on the Cincinnati Reds when he played for, and managed, the team from 1985 until 1987, but an allegation surfaced in 2017 that Rose had an improper sexual relationship with a minor in the 1970s.'In planning the 1980 reunion, we consulted with Pete's teammates about his inclusion,' the Phillies said in a statement. 'Everyone wants Pete to be part of the festivities since there would be no trophy in 1980 without him. In addition, the club received permission from the Commissioner's Office in invite Pete as a member of the championship team.'
