New York is sinking fast and new research says that real estate developers' 'bigger is better' ethos is the cause.The city is sinking at a rate of 1-2 millimeters per year, according to scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of , under the weight of its towering skyscrapers. While a few millimeters might not sound that catastrophic, some parts of the city are subsiding much faster, at pace with the fastest rates tectonic plates are known to move.
