Football fever is in the air in Qatar, with workers spending the last few weeks scrubbing every square inch of the capital Doha in preparation for the country's World Cup debut.Palatial hotels such as the Waldorf and St Regis have sprung up in the most popular neighbourhoods, including expat suburb 'The Pearl', all with grand plans of opening for the major sporting event they hope will paint the nation as a tourism destination.The World Cup, which is held from November 20 to December 18, will see the population of the tiny Arab state swell from 2.9million to 5million over the next six weeks.
