A sailboat crew is lucky to be alive after a huge whale hit their vessel, sinking the ship and forcing them to spend 10 hours on the Pacific Ocean waiting for someone to rescue them from the same waters that inspired Herman Melville's Moby Dick. The four friends - led by resident and Newcastle, England native Rick Rodriguez, 31 - were planning to sail about 3,500 miles on Rodriguez's 44-foot ship, The Raindancer, from the Galapagos Islands to French Polynesia over the course of three weeks.On the afternoon March 13, coincidentally day 13 of their journey, Rick Rodriguez - who had been living on the boat - had his lunch of pizza interrupted by a noise.
