A school district in the San Francisco Bay area has asked parents with a spare room to consider renting it out to teachers, as the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment in the region soars past $3,000 a month. The Milpitas Unified School District, which spans the edge of Silicon Valley from San Jose to Fremont, employs 941 people - but they are struggling to keep teachers because of the scarcity of affordable housing.Teachers in the district earn from $67,163 to $111,410, meaning that even the highest-earning teachers would not qualify for the $3,000-a-month rent.
