Scientists have devised a universal test for autism in babies that uses a single strand of hair.It works by analyzing the sample for levels of metals like mercury, lead and aluminium — which are higher in autistic children.The test involves sending a sample of hair to a laboratory for analysis and was shown to predict autism accurately 81 percent of the time in a peer-reviewed study.
