A scrap of plaid textile dating back more than 400 years is Scotland's oldest tartan, scientists have revealed.Discovered in a peat bog in Glen Affric in the Scottish Highlands, the faded fabric features traces of green and brown dye and belonged to an unknown clan. It is believed to date back to the start of the 16th century at the earliest, possibly during the reign of James IV, James V or Mary Queen of Scots.
