The second member of the far-right Wolverine Watchmen militia group has agreed to plead guilty, and will testify against four co-conspirators who plotted to kidnap and harm Governor Gretchen Whitmer in the fall of 2020. Kaleb Franks, 27, of Waterford Township, about 40 miles from Detroit, is scheduled on Wednesday to plead guilty to kidnapping conspiracy in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids. The charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Franks was one of six Wolverine Watchmen members arrested on October 8, 2020 for allegedly hatching the plot to snatch Whitmer because they were upset with Michigan's restrictions.
