A super-Earth covered in oceans of lava and another that is completely airless have been chosen as the first targets of 's James Webb Telescope. One of the planets, known as 55 Cancri e, has surface temperatures reaching 4,400 °F (2,400 °C) – far above the melting point of typical rock-forming minerals. The day side is thus thought to be covered in lava, which could also fall as rain depending on its orbiting pattern.
